  1. Hello-
I have been perusing the different SD ski clubs and like that your club offers mid-week trips to Mammoth. However, I’d like some clarification about what’s available to me if I join your organization.

Does membership in one club allow you to take advantage of the ski and/or adventure trips offered by the other local clubs? And vice versa? Is there another club that you usually partner with to do this?

I know that all SD clubs form a “council” and gain membership in the FWSA and can participate in what they offer.

    Thank you for your help.

    Joan

    • Most clubs, including DDSC, require that you become a member in order to participate in their trips. Generally if a trip has not been filled by club members then it is opened to other member clubs in the San Diego Council of Ski Clubs. This coming January DDSC will be running a joint trip with Torrey Pines ski club

  2. I am shocked and saddened to learn that Verena has left this world!
She and I met in 2002, on a widow online website – sort of a support group – after our husbands passed away. When I learned that her Ken, and my Gary both died on July 20, 2002, we had an instant connection. We each understood the feeling of emptiness that no one else could possibly know. For many years we communicated back and forth, less and less frequently as the years went by, and I got married again in 2007. I thought of her this July 20, but did not attempt to contact her, and now I am so sorry. Of all the people I know, I figured
Verena would dance on all of our graves! She was such an inspiration to me.
I just want to let you all know how sorry I am that you have lost such a good friend, and that I was not a better friend to her. I figured we had the rest of our lives to catch up. ‘Nuff said.
Take care of each other, and live your lives like Verena – as I see that you DO:)
We will always remember our friend Verena Florence!
    Sincerely,
    Sharon Campbell

    • Sharon,
I am a friend of Verena’s from Manhattan Beach. I’m a lawyer and Ken was my mentor. I left the firm many years ago, but I owe so much to Ken and Verena. I’m in shock. I last talked to her 4 or 5 months ago. Do you know any specifics. I had no idea she was ill.
